Monday Shameless Self-Promotion, the Wednesday Edition
Ahhh summer… a time of weddings, holidays, and unabashed laziness and procrastination. (Or maybe that’s just me!)
But we here at the MPS know that summer doesn’t stop all your poetry related events & accomplishments. So, you know the drill. And if you don’t, here goes: post a comment with your upcoming reading, publication, or other news. Lazy summer minds want to know

I’ll start. I’ve got two new(ish) articles up on Philly2Philly.com: a review of the Morris Arboretum’s new Tree Adventure/Out on a Limb exhibit and a review of Bill Van Buskirk’s award-winning new book of poetry (more details about that will show up right here on this blog in the near(ish) future).
Please come around to the East Falls Library Poetry Potluck on Wednesday, July 22, 6:30-8pm! We will be UPSTAIRS — the big time, right? — and we will welcome all poets and styles of poetry that you want to share whether they are yours or those of a favorite poet! Thanks and pass this on to folks who might be interested!
1. Non-Shameless Promotion: Otherwise – Poetry at Churchill will welcome Peter Krok and Nancy Scott on 8/9 at 7PM in Pottstown. Great crowd. Great pastries. Great poets and a great open mic – bring your “A” game.
2. Quite Shameless Self-Promotion: My second collection of poems, “Forms of Lectio”, was a finalist in this year’s Eric Hoffer competition to identify the best independently published books in North America. Hey, I’m just excited someone who doesn’t know me thinks my words are worth something. My prize: I get the privilege of buying stickers to put on my book (the few that are left from the limited printing and the few the cats have not marked as their very own) so hurry to get one of your very own after the stickers arrive!
3. A Peek at Future Shameless Self-Promotion: Spurred on by the thrill of success and the drug-like high of fame from having my name and book title listed on that totally obscure link to the Eric Hoffer website listing all the finalists who did not win a “big” prize, I have begun work on my third book. And here, because you have wandered this far and, hopefully, can still focus your eyes and brain is the first chapter from what will quite undoubtedly be the most famous work in some city or town or village for at least 0.003 seconds of the first year of the second decade of some future century as some yet to be born person discovers the single surviving copy where it has been wedged into the eaves of an ancient attic to keep out winter wind and a wandering squirrel or bat:
On the first day of kindergarten, while waiting for my mother to walk me home, Bobby Morton walked up to me and hit me on the head with his book bag. He said, before walking away, “Better watch it kid, next time there will be books in it.”
And so it began.
Hello ALL:
My band, Mel Brake Family Band, will be performing at the Coffee Club (Media,PA) on Sat 7/18 at 7PM. We will play original songs/covers and recite poetry, too. Everyone is invited to come out and have some fun.
I am hosting a night of poetry and music at Blue Bananas Cafe, 223 South St August 6, 2009. The series is called BLEND by the Poetic Arts Performance Project, and features Anna Evans and Michelle Christine Garza.
