I recently heard a reading of Louis McKee's poem "The Angels" from "Near Occasions of Sin" on NPR. I enjoy all his work, but our singing group "The Angels" is mentioned in that one and we would like to post it on our site. We're not sure if we have to contact Louis or his publisher to ask permission but advice is welcomed.I can't seem to find an email or a site which would help me to contact him.
We're are currently portrayed singing "My Boyfriend's Back" in the Broadway hit "Jersey Boys" and of course that's an honor, but there is certainly something very wonderful about being mentioned in McKee's work. The poem "The Angels captured so much of what a young boy would have been feeling at that time in his life and the importance of music in memory. Thanks, Peggy

I was just cruising around the 'net, when I stumbled across this site. So I figured, why not just leave a lil' somethin'?

I'm currently interning in DC, but I'll be back to NJ for a few weeks. I've been talking with my friend about hosting/organizing another open mic joint in Newark sometime this summer. And I've been consistently putting the finishing touches on a book of poetry that I hope to be finished with by June 27th.

Gerry LaFemina's Master Poetry Workshop
Noted poet and editor Gerry LaFemina will be conducting a short-term, intensive poetry workshop at the 205 Lavinia Street in Milton, De. from Thursday night March 27 - Sunday morning, March 30, 2008. The workshop will focus on both preexisting participant work as well as new-work generating exercises, focused craft lectures, and a discussion on publishing. "The idea is to have it be an MFA seminar in a suitcase," LaFemina says, and notes that the weekend will include a participant reading and a special guest poetry reading, time to write, time to socialize, and focused time on participant work. Visit www.205lavinia.com or call 302-684-3379
to register. The cost of the workshop is $250. Limited space, so please register now to secure a place.

LaFemina is the author of several full-length poetry collections, including The Parakeets of Brooklyn, The Window Facing Winter, and Graffiti Heart. He's also the author of two collections of prose poems, co-translater with Sinan Toprak of Voice Lock Puppet--work by contemporary Turkish poet Ali Yuce, co-editor of two poetry anthologies, co-editor of Review Revue--a journal of poetry reviews, and managing editor of Nightsun. He has also run a small literary press, edited a national literary journal, served on the Board of Directors of the AWP, and taught at numerous workshops. He directs the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing at Frostburg State University, where he also teaches.

Finally got an acceptance from Nerve Cowboy after a few trys--my stupid squirrel poem, of all things! I think I read it at the last meeting ("Why Did the Chicken...?"). A couple more will be in the next Iodine Poetry Journal, and a long one in Ibbetson Street's fall issue. This cheers me! Looking forward to the next mtg.!!

Sadly, I don't have anything to self-promote, but I'd like to remind everyone about the special book launch & reading this Thursday for Elizabeth McFarland's new book Over the Summer Water.

Or, if you happen to be heading up to NYC for the AWP Conference, you should check out the Courting Risk reading on Thursday night, featuring a fine line up of diverse women writers from across the country. Check it out at www.courtingrisk.com.

It would be rude not to, really, wouldn't it?

Well, I'd just like to say that my sonnet "Hurricane Felix" was a finalist for the prestigious 2007 Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award, the second time a sonnet of mine has earned such an honor. It will be plublished along with the winning sonnet by Mike Juster, and the eleven other finalists, in the 2008 issue of Measure.
