The Mad Poets Society runs poetry series and individual readings in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware Counties. Over the years, we have coordinated special events and exchange readings with other area groups, including HBO Def Poetry Jam, Poets and Prophets, Penn’s Landing Corporation, Delaware County Artists Guild, Wallingford Art Center, Forum for the Arts in New Hope, The Philadelphia Poetry Forum, George’s 5th Street Cafe, Cafe Santa Maria, Quarry St. Cafe, South Street Arts Festival, “Welcome America” — Philly’s 4th of July Celebration, Godfrey Daniels Coffeehouse, Manayunk Art Center, Main Line Art Center, Future Music Studios, Minority Business Focus, the Rusty Nail, and the Poet’s Den, to name a few.
Currently, we run readings & workshops throughout the Delaware Valley at the following locations, among others: Churchill Artisan Baker & Chocolatier Pottstown, Pa. The Delaware County Institute of Science Media, Pa. The Gryphon Café Wayne, Pa. The Coffee Club Media, Pa. Walnut Street Library Philadelphia, Pa. (University City) Milkboy Acoustic Cafe Bryn Mawr, Pa. Steel City Coffee House Phoenixville, Pa. The Mad Poets Society also hosts several special events throughout the year, including biannual Mad Poet Bonfires at Ridley Creek State Park; an annual Young Poets Reading and Awards Celebration; and our annual Mad Poets Festival.
Reading times and program formats vary, depending on the series. Open readings follow all feature readings. You need not be a member of our group to attend any of these readings. They are free and open to the public.
