YOUNG POETS COMPETITION OPEN

TO ALL DELAWARE COUNTY STUDENTS

For the 31st year, the Young Poets Competition is accepting entries from students throughout Delaware County, from first grade to twelfth grade.  Deadline for entries is March 9 2020. Submit one poem per student to any public library in Delaware County.  Poems will be judged by grade level. Original poems must be typed or written neatly on an 8 ½ by 11 size sheet of paper (no odd size or construction paper, please).  The following information should appear on each poem: the student’s name, grade, school, home address, email address and phone number (winners will be notified by phone and mail).  Entries without all information will be disqualified and entries will not be returned. Prizes include cash prizes, and all first, second and third prize winners will be published in a booklet featuring the winning poems.

This Young Poets Competition will culminate in a special winners’ award event on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., featuring the thirty-six winners of the poetry competition who will read their winning poems at the Redwood Community Playhouse on 6th Street in Upland, Delaware County.

The contest is sponsored by several organizations including the Mad Poets Society, Delaware County Library System, Rose Tree Optimists Club, Pennsylvania Poetry Society, Keystone State Literacy Council and the PA Council on the Arts.  Thirty-six student poets, 1st through 3rd prize in 1st through 12th grade, will be honored. Admission is free.
