Friends and fans of poetry! I am delighted to announce that the next First Wednesday reading - December 1 at 7:00 p.m. - will feature poets Laura Demme and Alison Hicks! Both will have beautiful books to sell and sign.

The reading will be held in the beautiful upstairs ballroom of the Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Rd., right off the Blue Route in Wallingford, PA. There is an accessible entrance (head to the right of the building), and an elevator in the Duke Gallery.

Laura Demme is a multi-faceted artist, working in painting, collage, poetry, found object, ceramic, and concrete. Born in Norristown, PA, and educated through travel, Peters Valley Crafts School, and two years of Art School, she worked with textiles as the crafts project designer for Hearst Publications, Vogue Knitting and other Needlework Publications. After moving from New York to PA, she began working in Clay, joined the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen in 1997, and shows her work in various Galleries and at craft shows. Currently, Laura teaches Ceramic Hand Building and Raku and Alternative Firings at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. Some of her poetry boxes will be on display at this reading.


Alison Hicks is the winner of the 2021 Birdy Prize from Meadowlark Press for Knowing Is a Branching Trail. Previous collections are You Who Took the Boat Out and Kiss, a chapbook Falling Dreams, and a novella Love: A Story of Images. Her work has appeared in Eclipse, Gargoyle, Permafrost, and Poet Lore. She was named a finalist in the 2021 Beullah Rose prize from Smartish Pace, and nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Green Hills Literary Lantern. She is founder of Greater Philadelphia Wordshop Studio, which offers community-based writing workshops. Alison’s new book, Knowing Is a Branching Trail, can be found HERE
