Wendy Schermer was born in Detroit, grew up in Philadelphia, and is now a resident of Arden, Delaware, where she has lived since 2005. Wendy shares her home with two cats, who have been steadfast companions since her two sons became adults and made lives of their own - one in Philadelphia, and the other in Helena, Montana.
Wendy has been writing creatively for many years and is a member of several writing groups that provide friendship, support and inspiration.
Her poetry has been published in Dragonfly, USA Today, The Fox Chase Review, The Broadkill Review, The Rainbow Journal, The Cicada’s Cry, A Collection of Dance Poems, Amore Love Poems and the collections of work by participants in the 2010 and 2012 Cape Henlopen Writers’ Retreats. In 2014, one of Wendy’s poems was chosen for the University of Delaware’s Random Acts of Poetry Series.
Shantay may have begun writing in her youth mainly as a personal outlet. When Shantay was later introduced to spoken word & poetry readings, it became evident that her words were more than fractured phrases of thoughts on scraps of paper.
Her words had cadence and life!! She has since chosen to transparently share her experiences with the hope of impacting others. Shantay is now the author of a poetry book, titled Audacity. The title alone has become a motto of resilience for many; having the audacity to overcome the circumstances of life.
She creatively inserts her poetry while speaking at empowerment events and her book is being used in High School programs to encourage and discuss the freedom of writing and expression.
